1. Which devices are regulated RF equipment?

Devices that transmit or receive radio frequency signals may fall under NCC RF device controls.

Device type Typical spec NCC approval needed
Bluetooth headsets, speakers, keyboards and mice Bluetooth 5.x Type approval required
Wi-Fi routers, APs and adapters 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax Type approval required
Wireless remote controls 433MHz, 2.4GHz Type approval required
Smart home devices ZigBee, Z-Wave, Sub-GHz Type approval required
Mobile phones and tablets LTE / 5G / Wi-Fi Type approval required
LoRa and NB-IoT modules Sub-GHz Type approval required
Amateur radio station equipment Various bands Approval and import permit required

2. Difference between Class I and Class II devices

Class Definition Before import
Class I Equipment for public telecom networks, private telecom networks or amateur radio stations Type approval plus NCC import permit based on setup approval documents.
Class II General consumer low-power short-range devices Type approval is usually enough for sale; import permit usually not needed.

3. Type approval process: five steps

1

Confirm regulation status

Check NCC rules and announcements to confirm whether the product is regulated RF equipment.

2

Test at recognized lab

Send samples to an NCC-recognized lab such as SGS, UL, DEKRA or TUV and obtain the test report.

3

Prepare documents

Prepare application form, manuals, specification, circuit diagram, photos, test report and authorization if needed.

4

Submit and pay fees

Submit through NCC online service or office channel, then pay review fees and wait for review.

5

Label before sale

After receiving the certification number, label the product or packaging as required.

4. Review and certificate fees

Category Frequency scope Reference fee
Category 1 Below 1GHz About TWD 6,300 per type
Category 2 Above 1GHz About TWD 8,300 per type
Category 3 Wireless data, frequency hopping or digital modulation About TWD 10,300 per type
Series products Same series Review fee may be halved
Certificate fee Per case About TWD 600
Import permit Class I devices About TWD 600 per permit

Fees are references only. Actual amounts follow the latest NCC announcements.

5. Import permit for Class I devices

Class I RF devices require an NCC import permit in addition to type approval.

  1. Hold the corresponding radio station or network setup approval documents.
  2. Prepare import permit application, type approval certificate and setup approval copy.
  3. Apply to NCC and pay the permit fee.
  4. Import only after approval, then manage and close the case as required.
