Vintage furniture from China to Taiwan: confirm eligibility before discussing shipping costs

Last verified:

Vintage furniture is not automatically shippable. Before sending it from China to Taiwan, check whether it contains CITES-controlled wood or other animal/plant materials and whether it falls under China's cultural-relic export review; then check the complete 11-digit CCC code and import requirements by material and use. Marking an item as “self-use” does not make clearance lawful, and meeting the small-quantity Chinese industrial-goods permit exemption does not remove other controls.

Definition

Here, “vintage furniture” means used furniture, lighting or ceramics shipped by a Chinese seller, consolidated at the Shenzhen warehouse and forwarded to Taiwan.

Steps

Obtain material and age documentation → check export restrictions → check the 11-digit CCC code → confirm packaging and customs documents.

Comparison

1stDibs, Chairish, Etsy and eBay can provide product and brand-identification background, but they are not overseas receiving routes for HowBridge Logistics.

Data

For the small-quantity Chinese industrial-goods permit exemption, the full declaration CIF must not exceed NT$32,000 and each item must not exceed 24 pieces; goods that cannot be counted by piece must not exceed 40 kg.

Which part of the service can HowBridge Logistics provide?

We handle only China→Taiwan: the seller sends the item to the Shenzhen warehouse, where it is consolidated and suitably packed before shipment to Taiwan; the Taoyuan side handles the next steps. Receiving, disassembly/assembly, VAT refunds or LCL routes in other countries and regions are outside the service scope.

Can be assessed

Goods shipped by a Chinese seller whose material and documents can be checked, whose dimensions and weight can be safely packed, and whose complete CCC code and import rules allow import.

Pause shipment first

Items made of unidentified wood or animal/plant materials such as ivory or leather, suspected cultural relics, or goods whose transaction price or origin cannot be verified.

How should vintage furniture be classified first?

Calling an item simply “furniture” is insufficient. Separate its material, use, age, whether it is powered and whether it contains controlled materials before looking up the correct complete tariff code.

Product featureConfirm firstNext step
Wooden tables, chairs and cabinetsScientific name of the wood, whether leather/bone/horn is present, and manufacturing dateCheck the CITES appendices and notes, then check the furniture CCC code
Ceramics and tablewareMaterial, use, origin and ageCheck food-contact use and antique status separately; do not assume there are no restrictions
Vintage lightingFixture, wiring, socket, light source and rated specificationsPowered parts may have additional inspection requirements; check each item against the actual product
Antiques over 100 years oldAuthentic age, provenance documents and whether it is a cultural relicHeading 9706 is only a classification direction; the complete 11-digit code and export review are still required
Rosewood is not one species. Obtain the scientific name; Dalbergia nigra has been listed in CITES Appendix I since 1992. Do not mislabel it as Appendix II or infer import eligibility solely from “made before 1992.”

What are the steps for shipping vintage furniture from China to Taiwan?

  1. Obtain seller information: front and back photos, dimensions, weight, scientific material name, manufacturing date, brand/maker and transaction records.
  2. Confirm eligibility first: check CITES, animal/plant materials and China's cultural-relic export review; do not send the item to the warehouse if uncertain.
  3. Check the complete 11-digit code: use the actual material and purpose to look up the CCC code, tariff and import rules in the Customs-Permit Single Window; apply for advance review when necessary.
  4. Confirm packaging: protect fragile ceramics and furniture separately, and verify movable dimensions and load capacity; assess the packaging plan against the actual item.
  5. Declare accurately: retain order, payment and freight records, then verify the item and amount in EZ WAY before completing pre-authorization.

How do 1stDibs, Chairish, Etsy and eBay information differ from the shipping service?

These platforms can help identify brands, dates, sellers and market descriptions; names such as Eames chairs can also be used as search terms. However, product pages, platform reviews and seller labels cannot replace CITES checks, export documents, the complete CCC code or Taiwan import rules.

How should taxes and prices for vintage furniture be assessed?

Do not assume that all furniture has a fixed tariff or that you only add 5%. First obtain the import rate for the complete 11-digit code, then calculate from the customs value; the basis for ordinary import VAT also includes import duty and other legally included charges. High-value furniture may involve additional taxes.

  • Customs value: generally CIF, meaning the goods price plus freight and insurance.
  • Transaction evidence: retain orders, payment records and condition details for used goods; do not understate the value arbitrarily.
  • Permit-exemption boundary: meeting the small-quantity Chinese industrial-goods conditions only exempts the import permit; it does not exempt taxes or inspection and does not guarantee clearance.

Frequently asked questions about shipping vintage furniture to Taiwan

Can an Eames chair be shipped from China to Taiwan?
It depends on the actual material, age, authenticity and complete CCC code. If it contains controlled wood or other animal/plant materials, obtain the scientific name and check CITES first; the brand name alone is not enough.
Can furniture bought on 1stDibs or Chairish be shipped by HowBridge Logistics?
Only items that the seller can legally send to the Shenzhen warehouse and that pass checks for material, export and Taiwan import rules can be assessed. These platforms are product-identification background here and do not mean we receive goods at their locations.
Are vintage ceramics completely free of import restrictions?
No. Although wood CITES rules usually do not apply, check the material, use, origin, age, cultural-asset status and complete CCC code; food-contact use may have additional rules.
Does marking an item for self-use guarantee clearance?
Not necessarily. Self-use is not a general exemption; export, import, inspection, declaration and tariff requirements still apply.
Does MW0 mean vintage furniture can never be shipped?
Not necessarily. Chinese industrial goods in Chapters 25–97 may meet small-quantity permit-exemption conditions, but exclusions and other import rules must still be checked; permit exemption is not a guarantee of lawful clearance.
