UBN lookup tool

The check digit is validated before submission; if the format is wrong, no query is sent.

Understanding the results

When you need it

Confirming the title before issuing a triplicate invoice or an invoice with a UBN

Checking the name by UBN before issuing reduces title errors. For how invoices are issued and what to watch for when adding a UBN, see the e-invoice guide.

Businesses importing from mainland China via consolidation

When importing in a company's name, the company name and UBN on the customs data must both be filled in correctly. For the key points on business tax, import duty and formal declaration, see the import tax guide for businesses.

Getting an initial picture of a counterparty's registration status

Before paying or signing, you can check the other party's registration status as originally worded. This is only an initial reference and does not constitute any credit or legal judgment.

Limitations and disclaimer

This tool does not offer reverse lookup by name, address lookup, batch lookup or responsible-person data; the number of lookups per minute and per day from the same source is limited.

FAQ

If a UBN is found, does that mean the company is still operating?
You cannot necessarily conclude that. The “registration status” in this tool is copied as originally worded from the Ministry of Economic Affairs commerce and industry registration data (e.g. “approved for establishment”), and the tax registration data comes from the open business (tax) registration data of the Fiscal Information Agency, Ministry of Finance. Whether it is still operating should be confirmed by the “Public Inquiry of Tax Registration Data” on the Ministry of Finance eTax Portal and the official lookups of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Why can't a UBN be found?
There are three common reasons: first, the number was mistyped (this tool validates the check digit before submitting); second, the Fiscal Information Agency, Ministry of Finance, states in its dataset description that the open business (tax) registration data covers only businesses currently operating, so businesses that have suspended or ceased operations may not be found; third, for a sole proprietorship/partnership, the registration city/county must be specified to find the Ministry of Economic Affairs business registration. Not finding a record does not mean the UBN is invalid.
Why do I have to select a city/county for a sole proprietorship/partnership?
In the development guidelines of the Ministry of Economic Affairs commerce and industry open data platform, business registration queries require both the “business UBN” and the “business registration authority code”, whereas company registration needs only the UBN. So when looking up a sole proprietorship/partnership, you must first select the city/county government where it is registered to get the correct data.
If a UBN is found, can I import or handle customs declarations in that company's name?
You cannot conclude that. This tool only shows public government registration data; it cannot determine whether the other party qualifies as an importer or has mandated or authorized others to handle customs declarations, and it cannot be used to verify anyone's real-name identity. For the tax and customs key points for businesses importing from mainland China, see the import tax guide for businesses.
Does this site keep the UBNs I look up?
This site does not record which user looked up which UBN; to reduce the load on government systems, lookup results are cached on this site temporarily (up to 7 days) and then deleted automatically, and logs keep only masked numbers. This tool requires no login and does not display responsible-person data.
How do I look up the UBN of a non-profit organization?
The Ministry of Finance eTax Portal has a separate “Public Information Inquiry for Non-profit Organizations” that can be searched by UBN. This tool only covers business tax registration and Ministry of Economic Affairs company/business registration, so non-profit organizations may not be found here.
What does “Uses uniform invoices: No” in the results mean?
The Ministry of Finance business (tax) registration data has a “uses uniform invoices” field, which this tool copies as is. “No” means the business is registered as not using uniform invoices; if you need them to issue a receipt or invoice, you can first confirm with them how it will be issued.
