Key point
Many GPUs, motherboards, cases, cooling products, gaming peripherals and AI accessories seen at trade shows have supply chains connected to Shenzhen. Buyers can source similar components from Shenzhen Huaqiangbei and forward them to Taiwan.
2. Why does the source point to Shenzhen Huaqiangbei?
Shenzhen is a global electronics manufacturing hub, and Huaqiangbei is one of the world’s largest electronics component markets. From cables and small parts to GPUs, motherboards, cases, coolers, development boards and complete systems, the market has deep supply.
Huaqiangbei is useful because it offers broad categories, ready stock, source-level pricing and small-quantity buying.
- GPU, motherboard, CPU, memory and SSD: core DIY components.
- Case, PSU, coolers, fans and liquid cooling: popular for modding and PC shops.
- Gaming keyboards, mice, headsets, microphones and capture cards: creator peripherals.
- Cables, adapters, expansion cards, Mini PCs and development boards: useful for samples and small runs.
- Repair parts and used-good stock: common for repair businesses.

3. How much tax applies to PC parts imported into Taiwan?
Taiwan is a WTO Information Technology Agreement member, so many listed IT products have 0% import duty.
| Item | Rate / rule | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Import duty | Mostly 0% | Desktops, laptops, CPU, motherboards, GPUs, memory, SSDs and monitors under ITA categories are often duty-free. |
| VAT | 5% | (Customs value + duties) x 5%. Customs value usually includes product price, international freight and insurance. |
| Commodity tax | Usually not applied | Computer components are generally not in the commodity-tax category. |
| Personal low-value exemption | Customs value <= NT$2,000 | Personal postal or courier parcels within NT$2,000 may be exempt from duty, commodity tax and VAT. |
| Exemption frequency limit | 6 times per half-year | From the seventh eligible shipment in the same half-year, the exemption no longer applies. |
For PC builds, the main import cost is often 5% VAT rather than high duty.
4. BSMI inspection rules for computer products
Taiwan BSMI regulates many information technology products, including laptops, tablets, desktops, monitors and power supplies. Small self-use or low-value imports may use exemption channels.
- Same declaration and same specification with total value under USD 1,000; or
- Over USD 1,000 but quantity is not more than 5 units.
- Eligible imports may declare CI000000000010. More than 5 laptops generally need prior project approval.
Self-use goods, commercial samples, exhibition goods or R&D test items may use the relevant exemption code when conditions are met.
5. NCC rules for wireless products
Products with Bluetooth, WiFi or 2.4G wireless functions are low-power RF devices regulated by Taiwan NCC.
- For personal use by postal import, up to 2 units of the same product per shipment may be exempt from an import permit if catalog/specs and a self-use declaration pass NCC review.
- The same importer may bring in the same brand and model for self-use up to 10 units per year.
Pure wired components such as motherboards, GPUs, cases, wired keyboards, mice and cables do not involve NCC wireless controls.

| Consolidation | GPUs, motherboards, cases and cables from different sellers can ship together. |
| Small trials are practical | Samples and small batches can still be forwarded. |
| Customs support | AEO broker support helps check tariff codes, import rules, BSMI and NCC applicability. |
| Planning low-value exemptions | Personal small purchases can be planned around the NT$2,000 and six-times-per-half-year rules. |

8. Common mistakes and risks
Practices to avoid
- Splitting commercial imports into small parcels or undervaluing goods to avoid tax or inspection limits.
- Assuming 0% duty means no tax and forgetting 5% VAT plus exemption frequency limits.
- Using a self-use declaration for wireless goods intended for sale without formal NCC approval.
- Sending power banks or battery products by air freight and causing rejection or return.
Buying reminders
- Huaqiangbei has mixed gray-market, refurbished and relabeled parts; confirm authenticity and warranty with sellers.
- Insure high-value parts such as GPUs and CPUs, and use anti-static plus shock-resistant packaging.
- Rules and tariff classifications can change; customs decisions control each case.
