Taobao Shipping to Taiwan Guide

The following items must not be shipped from Taobao to Taiwan. They may be seized, returned or fined. Check before ordering:

Why use consolidation for Taobao to Taiwan?
Most Taobao, Tmall, Pinduoduo and 1688 sellers ship only to mainland China addresses. Taiwan buyers usually have three options:
🏪 Seller direct shipping
A few sellers offer direct international shipping, but freight is usually expensive and each order is shipped separately.
📦 Private forwarding
Small private forwarders may look cheaper, but often lack formal customs handling, clear bills or claims support.

How does Taobao consolidation to Taiwan work?
1Register and get a warehouse address
Create a HowBridge account (about 30 seconds) with your Taiwan mobile number. Your member dashboard then shows the complete Shenzhen warehouse delivery details: recipient name HowBridge (HowBridge), warehouse phone, postal code and address — this is the delivery address to use at Taobao checkout.
2Enter the warehouse address on Taobao
When shopping on Taobao, Tmall, Pinduoduo or 1688, use the HowBridge Shenzhen warehouse as the delivery address. Important: enter HowBridge (HowBridge) as the recipient name, and append your Taiwan mobile number (10 digits, e.g. 0912345678) to the end of the address — shipping labels mask the name and phone with asterisks but never the address, so the warehouse matches each parcel to your account by the mobile number at the end of the address.
3Consolidate after parcels arrive
When parcels arrive, check them in the member center, select items to ship and submit a consolidation order. Box consolidation is free. Air usually takes 3-5 days; sea freight 7-14 days to Taiwan.
4Customs release and Taiwan delivery
After arrival in Taiwan, confirm the declaration in the EZWay app. Once customs releases the parcel, local delivery is handled by Taiwan carriers.

How is Taobao-to-Taiwan freight calculated?
Freight is charged by the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. Formula:
Air express
- Timing: 3-5 business days
- Rate: from NT$50/kg for general cargo; from NT$80/kg for special cargo
- Best for: urgent, small or higher-value items
- Suitable: urgent items, small items, high unit price products (mobile phone cases, clothes, cosmetics)
Sea express
- Timing: 7-14 business days
- Rate: from NT$25/kg or NT$300 per cai
- Best for: bulky or heavy goods such as furniture and appliances
- Suitable: General daily necessities, clothes, shoes and bags, medium-weight products
Sea transportation (ordinary sea transportation)
- Timeliness: Approximately 7–14 working days
- Freight: starting from NT$25 per kilogram (depending on the type of product, please contact customer service for actual quotation)
- Billing: Based on volume (length × width × height ÷ 28317)
- Suitable: large items, heavy goods, furniture and home appliances (sofas, office chairs, strollers)

Do Taobao shipments need Taiwan import tax?
NT$2,000 exemption
Personal imports with a customs value within NT$2,000 are generally tax-exempt. If above the threshold, tax may apply:
- Import duty: depends on the CCC code and item category
- Business tax: 5%
- Promotional trade service fee: Duty-paid price × 0.04% (exempt if tax does not reach NT$100)

6 times in half a year Rules and Regulations Basis
⚠️ The "6 times per half-year" rule: If the same consignee has goods released duty-free more than 6 times within a half-year period (Jan–Jun / Jul–Dec), they are classified as a "frequent importer" — from the 7th shipment onward, the NT$2,000 exemption no longer applies and the entire batch is taxed.

Observation in the second half of 2026: Countries are gradually tightening tax exemptions for small-value parcels. Taiwan’s rules remain unchanged but must take care of “6 times in half a year”
Starting from July 1, 2026, the European Union has officially abolished the tax exemption threshold for cross-border small-value parcels, and will impose a minimum tariff of 3 euros on each parcel including Chinese e-commerce. In response to this policy, China Post has also suspended the receipt and delivery of some commodity parcels destined for the EU (source: NOWnews 2026-07-04 report). This is the latest case after many countries have successively tightened their tax-free policies for small-value parcels.
For buyers who are shipping back to Taiwan from Taobao, Taiwan’s current tax-free threshold of NT$2,000 has not been lowered, but don’t ignore the “6 times in half a year” mentioned above - if the same recipient receives tax-free release more than 6 times in half a year, the entire batch will be taxed starting from the 7th time. It is recommended to spread out the consolidation time and ship multiple items together in one box instead of splitting them into multiple declarations. At the same time, keep the formal purchase certificate to avoid the risk of under-declaration mentioned in the "Landmine Guide" below.
5 Taobao-to-Taiwan Pitfalls
1. BSMI-controlled goods
3C products (power banks, Bluetooth headphones, wireless adapters, LED lights) and other BSMI-regulated items will be rejected by customs without a "commodity inspection mark". Use our BSMI Lookup System to verify regulation status before consolidating your shipment.
2. Lithium batteries by air
Standalone batteries and built-in battery products may be rejected by air freight. Use sea freight when needed.
3. Excess food or medicine
Food, supplements, cosmetics and medicines have personal-use quantity limits. Excess items may be seized or returned.
4. Counterfeit goods
Counterfeit branded goods can be destroyed by customs without refund. Buy from authorized stores.
5. Unclear private forwarders
Avoid forwarders without company registration, clear invoices, support, insurance or parcel tracking.
6. If you are caught under-reporting or lying about product names, you will be required to pay taxes and impose penalties.
If the customs detects that the declared price or product name does not match the actual goods, in addition to paying the missing tax amount, it may also be subject to additional fines in accordance with the customs anti-smuggling regulations (for example, Kaohsiung Customs will publicly remind you of such seizure cases in 2026-07). It is more cost-effective to truthfully fill in the product price and product name before shipment, and keep screenshots of Taobao orders and payment records than deliberately underreporting - in most cases, the normal declaration is within the NT$2,000 tax exemption or the tax amount is very low, so there is no need to take the risk of additional taxes and penalties.
