I received an EZWay push notification but the declared amount or item name doesn't match. Will tapping "Declaration Mismatch" affect future customs clearance?
What happens if an EZ WAY declaration doesn't match? Can it be corrected?
From March 1, 2026, personal express imports under simplified declaration that use EZ Way online authorization are subject to advance authorization confirmation. If the item name, price, quantity, or other details are incorrect, select “申報不符” (“Declaration Mismatch”), contact the customs broker shown in the app, ask the broker to correct and resend the declaration, and confirm only after the corrected data appears. Selecting mismatch is not itself a penalty; however, filing or clearance may pause until the corrected authorization is confirmed. If you did not make the purchase, first rule out a family member or purchasing agent, then report suspected impersonation as instructed by Customs. Any false-declaration liability is determined case by case by Customs under the applicable law.
4 steps to handle an EZWay declared amount / item mismatch
1Check the pushed amount and item name
When the EZWay notification arrives, first check that the declared amount (goods price + shipping) and the item name match what you actually ordered; if the amount or items do not match, first confirm whether a relative, friend or purchasing agent imported goods in your name.
2Tap the matching mismatch type in the app
From March 1, 2026, personal express imports under simplified declaration that use EZ Way online authorization are subject to advance authorization confirmation. If the item name, price, quantity, or other details are incorrect, select “申報不符” (“Declaration Mismatch”), contact the customs broker shown in the app, ask the broker to correct and resend the declaration, and confirm only after the corrected data appears. 3Correct before filing (new advance-authorization rule)
From 2026-03-01, simplified declarations fully use advance authorization confirmation: your goods are not released until you confirm in the app. If the data is wrong, hold off confirming and ask the customs broker shown in the app to correct the amount or item name and push it again — that completes a "pre-declaration correction", with no need to wait for a decision and then seek redress.
4Redress after release or after a decision
Discovering a mismatch after the goods have been released puts you in the post-clearance stage: any additional duty is handled by customs through post-clearance audit under Article 13 of the Customs Act. If you disagree with the assessed duty, apply for a review within 30 days under Article 45 of the Customs Act; if you disagree with a fine, apply within 30 days under Article 47 of the Customs Anti-smuggling Act — in both cases to the customs office that issued the decision; if you are still dissatisfied, file an administrative appeal under Article 48 of the same Act.
What rules apply when a declaration doesn't match? Key facts
| Competent authority | Customs Administration, Ministry of Finance (EZ WAY) |
|---|---|
| Legal basis | Article 17(1)(3) of the Regulations Governing Customs Clearance Procedures for Air Express Consignments (online authorization via the real-name verification platform) and Article 17(2) (where authorization has not been completed, customs may refuse to accept the declaration) |
| Does tapping "Declaration Mismatch" affect clearance? | Filing may pause before confirmation; mismatch is not itself a penalty |
| Who is checked | The customs broker (post-clearance risk management), not the recipient personally |
| Can it be corrected? | Yes. Before filing, hold off confirming in the app and have the customs broker correct and push again; advance authorization confirmation fully took effect on 2026-03-01 |
| Amount mismatch vs item (name) mismatch | Tap the matching type in either case; item-name mismatches are common with mixed purchasing-agent shipments or sellers filling in item names carelessly |
| Import under a stolen identity | Tap "import declared under a stolen identity" and fill in the identity-misuse declaration form; see also the EZWay guide on identity misuse |
| Consequences of deliberate under- or false declaration | Where it is not a mere mismatch but a false declaration, Article 37 of the Customs Anti-smuggling Act allows a fine of up to five times the import duty evaded, or confiscation of the goods, or both the fine and confiscation |
| Deadline for redress | Duty amount → Article 45 of the Customs Act; fines → Article 47 of the Customs Anti-smuggling Act; in both cases apply for a review within 30 days from the day after receipt |
| HowBridge Logistics | When goods leave the warehouse, the declarant details registered by the member are passed to the partner customs broker for filing; you must still check every item in the push notification yourself |
What are the most common EZ WAY mismatch mistakes?
- Filing may pause before confirmation; mismatch is not itself a penalty
- Leaving the notification unconfirmed: under the new advance-authorization rule, goods not confirmed in the app are held and cannot be released — ignoring it does not mean it will "go through automatically".
- Confusing "truthfully reporting an amount mismatch" with "deliberate under-declaration": truthful reporting protects you; under-declaring to evade tax is a false declaration, separately punishable under Article 37 of the Customs Anti-smuggling Act with "a fine of up to five times the import duty evaded".
- Thinking only the amount can be wrong: an item-name mismatch (e.g. declared as "daily necessities" but actually cosmetics) must also be flagged for correction; otherwise a mismatch found at inspection will affect valuation and tariff classification.
Glossary
- Declaration Mismatch
- The option in the EZWay app for the consignee to report that "the pushed declaration data does not match what was actually bought", with three sub-types: item name mismatch, price mismatch, and import declared under a stolen identity.
- Advance authorization confirmation
- The system fully in force from 1 March 2026 under which the importer must confirm through EZWay, before the declaration is filed, that the data pushed by the customs broker matches the actual goods; without confirmation, the declaration and release cannot be completed.
- Review
- The first stage of administrative redress when you disagree with a duty assessment or an anti-smuggling decision by customs; it must be filed with the customs office that issued the decision within 30 days from the day after receiving the decision (or the duty payment notice).
